Friendly M15 draft

Alistair at the Darlington’s Dogs of War games club had organised a friendly M15 draft and was really looking forward to it, had even practiced a little for it ๐Ÿ™‚

Raise the Alarm
Raise the Alarm
So went into the night looking to pick a Convoke deck with as many of the enablers as possible; Raise the Alarm, Triplicate Spirits, Siege Wurm and any other small cards from those colours as all the online advice was that was the way to go.

That idea changed pretty quickly as first pack first pick was Chandra, Pyromaster, second and third picks were also strong to make me want to try and force red if I could. Second pack first pack really sort of confirmed it as I pulled Soul of Shandalar, this luck continued with most of my pulls. I even got passed a Goblin Rabblemaster!

In the end the cards I pulled were:

Card Pool

(45)
Soulmender
Stain the Mind
Unmake the Graves
Act on Impulse
Aggressive Mining
Altac Bloodseeker
Beligerent Sliver
Borderland Marauder
Chandra, Pyromaster
Clear a Path
Foundry Street Denizen
Frenzied Goblin
Generator Servant
Goblin Rabblemaster
Goblin Roughrider
Heat Ray
Inferno Fist
Kird Chieftain
Krenko’s Enforcer
Lava Axe
Lightning Strike
Miner’s Bane
Rummaging Goblin
Scrapyard Mongrel
Shrapnel Blast
Soul of Shandalar
Thundering Giant
Torch Fiend
Wall of Fire
Restock
Satyr Wayfinder
Bronze Sable
Mateorite
Tyrant’s Machine
Yavimaya Coast
Swamp
Mountain

From this pile of cards, which luckily was very consistently red, I made this deck:

Red Racer

(40)
Borderland Marauder
Chandra, Pyromaster
Foundry Street Denizen
Frenzied Goblin
Generator Servant
Goblin Rabblemaster
Goblin Roughrider
Heat Ray
Inferno Fist
Kird Chieftain
Krenko’s Enforcer
Lightning Strike
Miner’s Bane
Scrapyard Mongrel
Soul of Shandalar
Thundering Giant
Bronze Sable
Mateorite
Tyrant’s Machine
Forest
15 Mountain

We had three rounds in total.

Round 1 was very quick and won both games in about 10 minutes, both the Soul and Chandra showed up and both made a difference, especially with the amount of low toughness creatures in the set. The deck I was against was but I think I got all (most) of the better red cards which didn’t help his deck. 2-0

Round 2 was quick but not as quick as the first round, can’t really remember much more than a bit of green, but I came out very quickly again and in one game got the Chieftain out giving all the right creatures pump and trample. I do remember Meteorite getting rid of something bothersome again. 2-0

Round 3 was more difficult. The deck was x, again can’t remember the other colour. I lost the first round, his creatures came out more quickly than mine, I took damage off of Elvish Mystic. Second game was quicker, everything seemed to come out well again, though the player was harder to play against as he was more experienced than the previous two, but I won. Third game was the first time I had to mulligan in the game but I drew into 2 Lightning Strike 3 land and Generator Servant, again a hard fought game but I won. 2-1

So overall I was pleased with my performance, Chandra made a lot of difference in this format, even without using anything but her first ability.

Definitely up for more drafting, enjoyed it much more than I used to.

Thanks everyone for a great night ๐Ÿ™‚
